Demo?
I've been looking at Guild Wars lately, and it seems like a pretty cool game. I don't really want to fork over the money to buy it without knowing that I'm going to be happy with it though, so is there a demo somewhere that I can get before buying the game?

There is no demo as of yet, however, on occasion they do have free weekends that you can use to try out the game. I think the next one is comming up in march.

just buy it.... I don't think I know of anybody who's been dissapointed with it. Just a few WoW'ers who bemoan the lack of 40 person instances..... no this is NOT and attempt to reignite any GW vs WoW debate

download the client available at www.guildwars.com
this might take a while since it should be over 1/2 gig...and install it...do this before the free weekend, it will save some time and I believe you won't be wasting your money |

Being dissapointed with Guild Wars is a difficult task indeed....in fact, if you can manage to be disspointed with it, I will give you 1000xp and a crappy axe!!!

No I never played D2. And $50 is a lot when you're a freshman in college. :P

When I was in college (only a year ago, but man do I sound old, huh?), there were all sorts of gamers around the dorms. Just ask around. Someone's bound to have it and be willing to show you around. If not, yah, wait for the 24th.
If I can use myself as an example: I just passed 500 hours of gameplay, and still love every minute as much as the first/best. 500+ hours for 50 bucks..... 10+ hours of entertainment for a dollar.... pretty hard to beat if you ask me. |

sorry those were 3 different thoughts
the first lol was to the post above me the 50 bucks was to compare it to say WoW or anyother video game as you don't really have to pay any more to keep playing GW and Diablo was to reference it to something simular in value if not always gameplay |

Then again just to remind you (not saying its bad or anything) that these ARE biased posts since this is (infact) a guild wars forum . But my advise is this: Play the Guild Wars: Factions Beta Weekend on March 24th. If you like it, buy the game. If you dont, you may want to ask around your dorm and if someone has Guild Wars try it out.

Look around the forums and read up, reading up on the game may persuade you to buy it.

The upcoming event isn't free for everyone, as far as I was aware. It's by invite of existing Guild Wars players only (2 or 3 per player?). I'm sure you could find someone around these forums who'd be willing to send you an invite though.

Another thought... didn't the latest set of interviews with the developer guy say that the pre-release package includes a code for a 10 hour demo of Prophecies? I could be wrong, but I think that's the case. If so, you could try to find someone (like the freindly people who frequent this site) to let you use the code they get ---- could be as early as tomorrow!!!
